The stitching on originals is straight, with even stitch lengths and a clean finish both inside and out. Counterfeits, by contrast, often show irregular stitching, crooked seam lines or loose threads.

Since the 1980s, most bags have had a date code (serial number) inside. This indicates the place and time of manufacture and is usually located in a discreet spot. It should not be confused with the model number, which appears only on the invoice or label.
